University Library was established in the same year of the establishment of this University i.e., 1960 (01.11.1960) at ‘Naachghar’ in Mahatab Manjil (Rajbati/Raj Palace of Burdwan), Burdwan with the collection of Bengali, Economics, English, History, Philosophy, Sanskrit and Mathematics departmental books. In March 1962, the Library was shifted from ‘Naachghar’ (Mahatab Manjil, Rajbati) to ‘Darul Bahar’ (Golapbag) (presently Dept. of Education). In 1964, the Library was shifted to its present Central Library building. Presently, Central Library has been serving its 33 PG departments (21 Humanities & 12 Science depts.) and other departments like USIC, Health Centre, Life Long Learning & LAN System (Rajbati) successfully. Presently 21 Departmental Libraries are working under its supervision.

It is my immense pleasure to state that the experience and professionalism I have come across from the librarian is commendable. The digital availability of the materials are really worthy as well as time saver too. The books are well preserved and catalogued. The behaviour of the librarian and other staffs is a fact to be appreciated. I convey my best wishes to all of them.
I visited here for a library internship. It was a great experience that I’ll remember for lifetime. My first impression about the ultimate cleanliness of the library was excellent. I understand everything and gain some practical knowledge that make my basic knowledge strong and sound. This immense support is unimaginable. It is a great institution that inculcates the love for knowledge in student. It was a wonderful experience.
